Gelding comes good with an impressive win for Lee

This time last year Almond Lee took delivery of a sick-looking Solar Great after the horse had nearly lost a battle with colic in the quarantine facilities. Yesterday he watched as the gelding strode away for an impressive maiden win in a Class Four Handicap (1,200m). 'He was very sick,' Lee said. ' He lost 110 pounds and didn't acclimatise well at all.' At his fourth start, Solar Great was coming off two runner-up efforts and a two-week break. 'Two weeks isn't really a back up, but it is for him,' Lee said. 'He just can't eat, but when I looked at him last week, he looked normal and I put him in.' The win was Zac Purton's 12th for the term and took him to outright fourth in the jockeys' premiership race.
