Overlapping Business of Design Week is DETOUR (www.detour.hk), the annual flagship programme of the Hong Kong Ambassadors of Design (HKAoD).

This is a non-profit organisation and charity founded in 2006 as a sister organisation to the Hong Kong Design Centre.

HKAoD promotes design, creativity and local culture through a variety of events and projects and the DETOUR programme showcases new and emerging designers in the city. This year's theme is Use-Less (Are you going to use less, or are you useless, being the question).

Exhibitions, installations, performances, conferences, workshops and forums at the former Police Married Quarters, as well as several satellite events around town will showcase a line-up of creative concepts that address the issue.

Live music performances such as Clockenflap (December 9), digital visual art shows, design tournaments, round-table discussions and project presentations are all planned.

In a city where young artistic talent sometimes struggles for recognition, DETOUR is an opportunity to see the leading lights of the future shine today. DETOUR takes place from Friday to December 11.
