Let's see the colour of your money

HSBC

New HK$50 and HK$100 notes from the Bank of China and Standard Chartered Bank hit the city on Tuesday. HSBC also released its latest HK$50 notes.

While the colour and size remain unchanged, a new image showing either the bank logo or note value will appear on the top right corner of each note.

Depending on the angle, the image will shift in colour from gold to green.

In Kwun Tong, outside the Yue Man Square branches of the three banks, around 20 people queued up before the doors opened, hoping to exchange their old notes for the new ones.

A 75-year-old man in the queue told the Post that he was worried the new notes would run out if he did not line up early.

HSBC will be releasing its new HK$20 and HK$100 notes 'in early 2012 before Chinese New Year', according to the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
