Chan's late goal rescues South China
Chan Siu-ki scored his first goal of the season to send South China through to the semi-finals of the Canbo Senior Shield with a tough 2-1 win over Sham Shui Po at Hong Kong Stadium last night.
The quarter-final, second leg soccer match was heading towards extra time with the score tied at 1-1 before Chan headed home with two minutes left.
'The Shield is very important [champions to represent Hong Kong in the AFC Cup],' said the Hong Kong international.
'Although we had most of the possession, we just couldn't find the net. That's why I was so excited when I scored.'
Both sides needed a victory to go through to the semi-finals after drawing 1-1 in the first leg. Xu Deshuai opened the scoring for the Caroliners in the 62nd minute, but Fong Pak-lun levelled the score for Sham Shui Po in the 78th minute before Chan struck the winner.
Chan admitted he was under pressure before the match, especially after South China lost 2-1 to Pegasus last week in a league match that saw an altercation between Chan and Karl Dodd of Pegasus.
