A dramatic late move for Lucky Boy was vindicated when the Francis Lui Kin-wai-trained gelding saluted in a Class Four dirt contest. The brown lamp - which signifies a drop in odds of 50 per cent or more - was well and truly lit when Lucky Boy was slammed from double-figure odds to start a $3.9 favourite. Alex Lai Hoi-wing made the most of barrier one and the feather weight of 117 pounds with a tidy ride, staying out of trouble in the straight and pulling away to win by a length. It was Lucky Boy's first win in more than 18 months, but it didn't stop punters from betting up big on the seven-year-old. Lucky Boy was coming off a fourth on this surface, but his last win was as an outsider in March last year.
