'New' Business School sustains mainland links

The Rebranding

The Chinese University of Hong Kong's (CUHK) faculty of business administration was rebranded with a new logo in October 2011, and as part of the exercise, it became known as the CUHK Business School.

'The new brand is one component of a wider drive to communicate the strengths of our research and teaching,' said Professor TJ Wong, dean of CUHK Business School, and professor of accountancy at CUHK.

'It's [also] about curriculum development - ensuring that the Business School offers a coherent set of programmes to develop the next generation of global business leaders for the Asian century,' he adds.

CUHK Business School offers the city's oldest MBA programme and its Executive MBA has been ranked 10th in the world by the Financial Times. The new image highlights its plans for expanding and refining its curriculum, building on its track record of cutting-edge research and teaching excellence, and deepening its commitment to the people and business of Hong Kong and the region.

CUHK has joint programmes with mainland universities, including an MBA in finance with Tsinghua University and an executive masters in accountancy with the Shanghai National Accounting Institute. It aims to be the first Hong Kong business school with a mainland campus.

'We aim to be the next Stanford or Berkeley of China to help the development of the Pearl River Delta,' says Wong. 'The [delta's] entrepreneurial spirit has driven Chinese growth, but the region now needs to move up the value chain.'

CUHK Business School comprises two schools - Accountancy as well as Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) - and four departments - finance, decision sciences and managerial economics, management, and marketing.
