Princess Aiko of Japan turned 10 yesterday. She is the only child of Japan's crown prince Naruhito and crown princess Masako.

The royal couple had been married for eight years before Aiko was born.

Women cannot inherit the Japanese throne and so the princess cannot succeed her father. She has complained of being bullied at school.
