Mango Tree serves up Thai culture for city opening

After successful outlets in Tokyo, London, and Dubai, Thai restaurant Mango Tree opened its first store in Hong Kong last Wednesday with a ceremony that saw Thai dancing and culinary performances by the restaurant's twin chefs.

Attendees included Chakri Srichawana and Suree Trairatananukool, respectively the consul general and deputy consul general of the Royal Thai Consulate General, along with socialites such as Balia Chan, Linda Wang and Isabella Kau.

For socialites like Chan, who is a huge fan of Thai food and a spokesperson for a trimming company, it's a chore to find the balance.

'I love Thai food so much, especially the food here at Mango Tree,' she said. 'But I have to keep slim because I have to stay slim for these companies. It's a lot of pressure.'

For the holidays, Chan said she hopes to rest up and get plenty of exercise, to prepare for a happy new year.
