Sumptuous feasts

Luxury food hampers are always a welcomed gift for family, friends and colleagues. This year's hampers from some of the city's top hotels are packed with home-made seasonal sweets and savouries as well as eastern delicacies favoured by Hong Kong epicureans.

The Mandarin Oriental offer two featuring the hotel's home-made products, such as X0 sauce, rose petal jam and cookies. The East and West Hamper (HK$3,288) also includes bird's nest, Chinese mushrooms, Maldon sea salt, Christmas pudding, stollen and wines while The Deluxe Gourmet Hamper (HK$4,288) includes foie gras, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, wine and Christmas goodies. At the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong, choose from the Grand Celebration hamper (HK$2,988), Billecart Salmon NV (France), home-made chocolate, Coles' English Christmas pudding, panettone, home-made potted truffled foie gras, or the Grand Occasion hamper (HK$2,488) with M. Chapoutier Belleruche, gluhwien ingredients and recipe, home-made truffled duck liver pate, panettone and Christmas butter stollen. Tel: 2588 1234

The Peninsula offers four hampers. The Ivy (HK$1,288) Holly (HK$1,888), Christmas Rose (HK$2,288) and Pine (HK$2,888) all include chocolates, cookies, stollen, and tea with extras according to which one you choose. Ivy extras include Christmas ornaments; Holly contains jam and a bear mug; Christmas Rose has Champagne truffles and a stocking stuffed with cookies, and Pine includes a Santa Claus bear. The Conrad Hong Kong offers four hampers ranging from HK$1,288 to HK$3,888. Goodies include Tomme cheese in olive oil and black truffle, home-made pork and goose rillete from Brasserie on the Eighth and Lamelle II Borro, Ferragamo, Chardonnay 2006. Tel: 2521 3838

JW Marriott offers five choices starting with the Platinum Hamper (HK$1,288) filled with traditional goodies such as chocolates, panettone and plum pudding. The Ruby Hamper (HK$1,688) has a bottle of Genestet Reserve Rouge AOC from France and the Emerald Hamper (HK$2,288) a bottle of Stonier Pinot Noir from Australia and Louis Jadot Chablis from France. The Coral Hamper (HK$3,688) includes Italian coffee, a bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand and Moet Champagne. The Jade Hamper (HK$4,888) includes camembert, Rougie pure duck meat pate, Italian coffee, Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio and Kendall Jackson Grand Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Tel: 2841 3881

The Lee Gardens French Christmas Hamper includes goose mousse with truffle juice paired with a 2009 Bordeaux Abbaye Des Templiers red wine, special Alsace pasta, Spatzle and palet biscuits. Tel: 2907 5227

The InterContinental Grand Stanford offers hampers with luxury treats. There is an Italian Collection (HK$1,988) featuring a chef teddy bear, panettone, chocolate cake, marinated Amarena cherries, coffee and wine; the Chocolate Collection (HK$2,988) also has the chef teddy with all things chocolate as well as marmalade, fruit marbles and Champagne; and the InterContinental Grand Stanford Collection Hamper (HK$3,988) has the chef teddy with chocolates, cakes, candies, marmalade, foie gras and lobster bisque. The InterContinental Hong Kong showcases specially designed carry cases which can be personalised with customised brass plaques or luggage tags with the recipient's name. The Epicurean (HK$2,688) comes in a red hat box and features goodies such as classic panettone, orange and chocolate marzipan, butter shortbread, clotted cream fudge with several bottles of wine. The Aficionado (HK$14,888) and The Ultimate Collectors Edition Aficionado (HK$168,888) both come in a leather trunk with hidden drawers which reveal a treasure chest of gourmet delicacies and wine. Highlights include four bottles of vintage Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1er Cru Classe (1988, 1996, 1998 and 2006), all of which have been selected due to their high scores from Robert Parker and Wine Spectator magazine. Other specialities include Sevruga wild caviar from Iran, Balik salmon, Rougie goose foie gras, 5J Iberico ham (aged 24 months), a brushed whole truffle from France, and dried net abalone. The Aficionado includes white truffle pate premier Chinese mushrooms, imperial conpoy, superior birds' nest, Australian abalone, plus traditional holiday goodies including wine and spirits.
