Just purrfect

Korean designer Kim Myoung-su loves cats so much she gave up a promising career as a musician to focus on drawing pictures of furry felines.

Kim's most famous creation is Choo Choo Cat, a cute little critter who now adorns everything from fashion accessories to stationery. Choo Choo became an instant hit in Korea, and the trend has since spread to Japan, Taiwan, elsewhere in Asia and, most recently, Europe.

'I love cats so much - they are so cute and fat! I want to let people know about [how] I feel about cats and to make more people fall in love with them,' Kim says.

Choo Choo has appeared in many guises, from the Cat with a Pearl Earring (based on the 17th century Johannes Vermeer painting) to a shogun warrior, and this festive season, the moggy will be bringing a bit of Christmas cheer to Hong Kong through a pop-up store Kim has set up at Metroplaza, in Kwai Fong.

'I designed some fairy-tale scenes for the mall's Christmas decorations, as well as five limited-edition Christmas gifts, a mug, a calendar, an iPad case, a cardholder and a box, for shoppers to buy,' Kim says.

'Choo Choo Cat will appear as fairy-tale characters including Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood and the Three Little Pigs.'

Metroplaza is at 223 Hing Ning Road, Kwai Fong. For more information, call 2429 6500.
