Pepper spray used to subdue drugs suspect

A police officer used pepper spray in the arrest of a 31-year-old man found with a small amount of drugs in Yuen Long yesterday. The officer stopped the man, who was entering a cargo container in Fuk Hi Street at about 1.30am, and found a small amount of what is thought to be ketamine. The officer used the pepper spray to subdue the man.

Unions march to demand 8 per cent pay increases

The Confederation of Trade Unions and Neighbourhood and Workers' Service Centre led a protest calling on employers to offer pay rises of at least 8 per cent. Unionists marched from Wan Chai to the government headquarters in Tamar, Admiralty, passing several developers' officers. Tamar also hosted a demonstration by groups seeking free kindergarten and senior secondary education.

Drugs worth HK$1.7m seized from passenger

Some 2kg of methamphetamine, worth HK$1.7m, was seized from a man attempting to board a flight to New Zealand. The 35-year-old man will appear at Tsuen Wan Court today on trafficking charges.

Mainland hands over lawyer attack suspect

A 33-year-old man wanted for splashing corrosive fluid over an expatriate lawyer in Wan Chai in 2009 was handed over by mainland authorities last Friday. He is charged with conspiring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and will appear at Eastern Court today.
