Every year around Christmas, seasonal entertainment takes hold of the city. A permanent feature of that is The Nutcracker-themed programmes and attractions.
This year, there will be an alternative to the usual collection of ballets, musicals, dramas and mall exhibitions: a movie in 3D.
Based on Pyotr Tchaikovsky's famous ballet, The Nutcracker in 3D brings the beloved old story to a new visual form.
Nine-year-old Mary (Elle Fanning) is neglected by her parents and bratty brother Max (Aaron Michael Drozin). She is surrounded by wonderful toys, but what she wants is companionship. Her wish comes true on Christmas Day, after Uncle Albert (Nathan Lane) gives her a nutcracker as a gift.
That night the nutcracker, who introduces himself as NC, comes to life.
He takes her on a wonderful journey into an enchanted world inhabited by fairies and other fantastical characters.
