Aussie chef relishes sharing his love of cooking with HK foodies

Australian chef Adrian Richardson, host of cooking shows Good Chef, Bad Chef and Secret Meat Business, is in town this week to serve up a string of culinary experiences.

As part of the Celebrity Chefs Event Series co-organised by American Express and the Asian Food Channel, Richardson has been flown in for cooking demonstrations, exclusive dinners and an autograph session for his latest cookbook, The Good Life.

'I'm very excited to meet the foodies here. I know Hong Kong people take their food very seriously,' he said.

Richardson opened La Luna Bistro, where he is still head chef, in 1999 and it is now considered to be one of Melbourne's finest Mediterranean bistros.

A regular face on television, he still remembers what it was like to be a novice.

'When I first started, I was pretty nervous and I worked really hard on my presentation skills until I was comfortable in front of the camera. My 20 years' kitchen experience certainly helped,' he said.

In Hong Kong for the first time, it was not long before he was savouring the food. 'I just finished some roast goose,' he said, less than two hours after arriving on Monday.

Asked about the local fare he was most excited about, he said: 'Where do we start? I want not just the fancy restaurants, but also little eateries. Oh, and I'd love to try dumplings.'
