The government has proposed a HK$5 million fine and jail term of up to seven years for people found guilty of disseminating false or misleading information in the sale of first-hand properties. This is part of a two-month public consultation, which will end on January 28, to enhance consumer protection and add transparency. The government wants the use of a standardised definition of 'saleable area' for quoting prices.
