A little-known University of Hong Kong anthem written by late former governor Sir Cecil Clementi will be played at a centenary gala dinner.

About 5,000 people will attend the event at the Bonham Road campus on December 18. Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, chancellor of the university, has been invited.

Among those expected to attend are former vice-chancellors Rayson Huang, Wang Gungwu and Cheng Yiu-chung, and former members of the council including retired judge Sir Yang Ti Liang and entrepreneur Victor Fung Kwok-king.

Clementi wrote the song's lyrics to mark the founding of the university. Alumni and singer Sam Hui Koon-kit has composed a song to celebrate the anniversary and recorded a clip to be played at the event.
