Swastikas remain despite complaint
Villagers in Shek O have complained that despite informing New World First Bus Services about Nazi graffiti on the wall of the village's bus terminus nearly three weeks ago, nothing is being done about it.
Two swastikas were sprayed in pink on the terminus at the beginning of this year along with the letters RAI. Complainants know they are Nazi swastikas, since the four arms of the cross are bent to the right, rather than to the left as in the Buddhist swastika.
Shek O resident Mark Presley contacted the bus company to get them to act on the insulting symbols, but is still waiting for results.
'Even though they're not the largest of swastikas and are painted really badly in pink, the point is that it is a despicable symbol with evil elements attached to it,' Presley said.
'It would only take several coats of paint to sort it out, but despite me bringing this to New World First Bus Services' attention by e-mail 19 days ago nothing has happened.'
The company would only say that the case had been forwarded to the relevant department for investigation, which was continuing.
Presley praised improvements made to the pavement at the terminus, with passengers no longer required to queue between railings and the kerb extended for wheelchair users. But he said the graffiti still needed to be dealt with.
'They have had ample time to send a small painting crew to Shek O to even just cover over these two Nazi swastikas, but they still haven't,' he said.
