Frankie Dettori
'The world's most charismatic jockey' won the Cathay Pacific International Jockeys' Championship title in Happy Valley on Wednesday night, eight days before his 41st birthday. Dettori previously won the event in 1999 and 2001. The Italian-born jockey said he had been unable to compete since 2001 because his five children had been taking part in their school nativity plays at the time the races were held. This year, however, his youngest, Rocco, had grown past that age, and Mrs Dettori gave him the night off.
Tiger Woods
For the first time since his life began to career out of control two years ago when he crashed his car at his Florida home, the player many consider the greatest golfer in history finally won another tournament. A 10-foot birdie putt on the final hole scored him his fifth Chevron World Challenge title. For Woods, who turns 36 on December 30, it was his first victory since the Australian Masters on November 15, 2009, during which time he has fallen in the world rankings from No1 to 52nd and endured revelations of infidelity, several injuries and a divorce.

It may have been a sad moment for Hong Kong's most famous media mogul when he decided to relinquish his posts at TVB barely two weeks after his 104th birthday, ending a 44-year career in broadcasting, but his retirement will, presumably, be well funded. In March he sold his 26 per cent stake in TVB for HK$6.26 billion. And, according to TVB deputy controller of external affairs Tsang Sing-ming his health has 'shown no major changes'.
