Carnival in the park

Christmas has come early to Ocean Park. Opened last Friday, the park's brand new game zone, Thrill Mountain, adds six new rides, bringing the total to 27.

With a carnival as its theme, Thrill Mountain brings a classic amusement park atmosphere to Ocean Park. Well-known and well-loved rides such as bumper cars (Bumper Blasters) and a swing carousel (Whirly Bird) are featured.

Riders on Whirly Bird can adjust the height of their ride as they soar 30 metres into the air while enjoying a great view of the park and the South China Sea.

For those seeking more of a thrill, Flash will put them upside down. The exciting pendulum ride swings guests horizontally and vertically, then makes a full circle.

Thrill Mountain's main attraction is the Hair Raiser, the city's first-ever floorless roller coaster. Riders dip and turn high in the air at speeds of up to 88km/h, the fastest for a roller-coaster ride in Hong Kong.

'Thrill Mountain is an integral part of the new Ocean Park experience envisioned in our HK$5.5 billion master redevelopment plan. It is also Ocean Park's Christmas present for thrill-seekers around the world,' said Allan Zeman, chairman of the park.

'Guests not only get to enjoy Hong Kong's fastest roller-coaster ride, but also do so at the highest elevation in town.'

In addition to the rides, Thrill Mountain has eight game booths with classic carnival games, such as bottle ring toss and can knockdown, as well as a new food hall.
