A taste of Macau at TST store as watchmaker takes a gamble on casino-themed collection

Guests at the soft opening of watchmaker Roger Dubuis' first flagship store in Asia, at 1881 Heritage, were treated to the sort of fun they'd usually have to go to Macau to enjoy. To celebrate the local launch of La Monegasque collection on Thursday, a spinning roulette wheel was the decorative centrepiece of its third store in the city, while roulette tables were set up and toy tokens given out for guests to try their luck as they sipped champagne.

They then moved on to dinner served in a tent in the garden of Hullett House, adorned with a chandelier and featuring a jazz band. Model Mandy Lieu and fashion guru Wyman Wong Wai-man, who alongside Taiwanese model Gao Yi-xiang attended the global launch of the casino-themed collection in Monaco in October, were among the VIPs enjoying a four-course meal with Roger Dubuis' general manager Jean-Marc Pontrou?, who had come all the way from Geneva.

Lieu said she missed Monaco's beautiful weather and vibe, and La Monegasque collection captured the extravagance and style of a casino. When it came to buying herself expensive presents, she said: 'I'm not so much a watch collector yet, but since I started working I have all these little rewards for myself.'

She said each of her trinkets told a story: 'If I open my jewellery box, I don't just see jewellery and watches, I see blood, sweat and tears, and I see the stories behind them and great memories. Hopefully, one day when I have children I can share these with them.'
