Spy Kids: All the Time in the World (DVD)
3D-haters beware. If you whinge about the goofy goggles, you'd have hated what the creators of Spy Kids: All the Time in the World did in cinemas. They produced a 4D film, with the fourth dimension coming in the form of scratch-and-sniff cards. It all smells rather gimmicky. It's lucky the DVD version doesn't include 'smell-o-vision'.
Spy mum Marissa (Jessica Alba) hopes to leave the business to live a normal life with husband Wilbur (Joel McHale) and his twins Cecil (Mason Cook) and Rebecca (Rowan Blanchard).
The Timekeeper (Jeremy Piven) has unleashed terror on Earth. He's devised a plan to steal time. In fact, clocks and watches simply speed up - it's less stealing time than hurrying it along, except none of the characters displays signs of ageing. The twins are drafted into the Spy Kids Division to try to help their stepmother stop the Timekeeper before time runs out.
A number of tasteless pranks might make you nauseous. Be prepared for flying vomit, green slime and nappy bombs. That said, the kids have some really cool gadgets that would put even Inspector Gadget to shame. And a talking, martial-arts-fighting dog named Argonaut (Ricky Gervais) provides witty humour.
Cameos from the original spy kids - now adults - might be of interest to fans of the series. However, given all the time in the world, I still wouldn't want to sit through this one again.
