I have several friends who look at the dessert menu before deciding on a starter and main course - they figure that if there's something really tempting to end the meal with, they won't fill themselves up with savoury dishes. It's not only about desserts. The blogger, Lori Baltazar, is based in Manila, in the Philippines, and writes that her site is dedicated to 'desserts, restaurants, coffee and the pleasures of home baking'. She reviews restaurants and books, posts about pastry shops and writes about cities and countries she visits. Of course, she also gives sweet and savoury recipes, including those for sour cream yeast rolls stuffed with chocolate, cinnamon and nuts; 'amazing, overnight waffles'; baked butternut squash (right); pumpkin spice latte and chestnut lattes; and soft-boiled bayawak (monitor lizard) eggs (above right). She also writes 'how to' posts, including pictorials on how to get the contents out of an ostrich egg (a drill is involved) and making yogurt without special equipment.
