Owner to strike it rich with smart youngster

Theheroinmyheart has made a good impression in his two outings and his latest effort indicated he is heading in the right direction.

The David Ferraris-trained four-year-old made his debut earlier this month under similar-race conditions as the second longest-priced runner and never had an easier time of things in the run, getting brushed and blocked before keeping on well to finish sixth.

Backed down from $110 to $84 at the jump on his latest run, Theheroinmyheart jumped slow for Tim Clark, tacked on to settle fourth from the rear, ducked inside at the 100m when failing to get to the outside of Real General and Scent Of Osmanthus passing the 200m before unleashing a powerful turn of foot to go down by 23/4 lengths third to Sohna and neck second Grand Champion.

Theheroinmyheart is a New Zealand bred son of the bay coated Danehill stallion Viking Ruler, a winner of the 2011 Group One Spring Champion Stakes over 2,000m at Randwick and is the local sire of three winners from seven starts with clearly his best being the once 109-rated Aashiq, a winner of four at 1,400m.

He's out of the useful chestnut mare Selenium, a daughter of Straight Strike and winner of six races at 1,200m, and has produced five other winning foals, including his full-brother St Moritz, and half-brothers St Germaine, Sequential, Kintyre Lil, and Selenic. His second dam, the Islero mare Miss Jaybeejay was a useful performer herself, chalking up four wins from 1,200m to 1,600m, including a Listed sprint at Waikato.

Drawing on an influential female line, Theheroinmyheart is proving to be an early maturing type and should be effective at a mile and under and will be winning his way out of Class Four.

Out of a Straight Strike mare, he should successfully be able to make the transition to all-weather track or the slightly softer conditions.

Owner Winston Chow Wing-kin has had good success with trainer Ferraris in the past. They combined in the same racing colours to chalk up four wins from 19 starts with smart One Wee Acorn and, in partnership, landed five wins and nine placings from 28 starts with the versatile miler/middle-distance performer Crusader Of Gold.

With such formidable stats, it's only a matter of time before Theheroinmyheart starts to rack up wins for the Chow/Ferraris combination.
