You shouldn't have! The best gifts ever ...

William Chan Wai-ting, singer-dancer

My best Christmas gift was also my worst. Every year, my extended family of 20 to 30 relatives get together for dinner and a lucky draw. One year I drew the biggest gift in the pile - it was about one foot by three foot. At that moment, I felt like the luckiest guy on earth. I opened it, and it was a 12-pack of toilet rolls. I kind of felt a bit cheated, but at least it was useful.

Kevin Cheng Ka-wing, TVB actor

The best Christmas gift for me was the TVB best actor award I received just a few weeks ago, and I think that will remain the best ever in the years to come. I've been in the business for a while and I'm always trying to improve my acting. I feel very blessed to be recognised for it by fans and fellow actors. As for a more materialistic gift, I'd love to have a BMW i8 - the model featured in the latest Mission: Impossible film.

My best Christmas gift was breaking up with a boyfriend who was violent. It was three years ago in New York. After a year of struggle I had to decide whether to leave or stay. It was tough because I still had feelings for him. The week before Christmas, after hanging out at a bar, we got into a huge fight and he pushed me to the ground. The police were called. They advised me to get a restraining order against him, and I did. We broke up that night. It was definitely the best Christmas gift ever.

Kay Tse On-kei, Canto-pop singer

This month is all about rehearsing for my January concert, but I will probably take Christmas Day off to cook and celebrate with my family at home. The best gift I ever got was a card that my four-year-old son made for me last year. It came in the mail, which was so endearing and funny. He'd drawn a bunch of children playing with a Transformer, and his handwriting was all wonky. Best gift ever!

As I grow older, I think the best gift possible is to spend quality time with my family. I once brought my whole family for a holiday in Thailand and Hong Kong. They haven't stopped talking about it since. The days when I was still excited about gifts were the first time I saw Santa and when he brought me a bike, with ribbons and all that. I was so happy. The worst gift was from my little sister, who's seven years younger than me. She gave me a present when she was eight years old. She didn't have time to buy any gifts so she gave everyone a can of Coca-Cola. She wrapped them really nicely as if they were candies. I still think it was pretty cute.
