The Great Indian Kebab Factory,
Shop 8, Level 2, Miramar Shopping Centre, 132 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui;
Tel: 2317 7008

Grub: Indian

Vibe: A classy place at the back of the Miramar Shopping Centre next to Knutsford Steps. The tables are spacious, the chairs are large and comfortable. A line of brightly coloured cushions along the seats by the wall is the only nod towards Indian style. Lighting, in the evening at least, is low. The background music mixes Indian and African themes, punctuated with a funky beat; it is not too loud for conversation.

Who to take: You can go as a small group, but this is a great place to visit if you have something to celebrate with a large group of friends.

What's hot: There is a full a la carte menu, but, if you are going for dinner, the 11-course, all-you-can-eat degustation menu, is the most interesting choice - and also excellent value for money. It is available in vegetarian and non-vegetarian versions.

The portions may seem rather small, but you can ask for more if you like anything. Your plate arrives, trimmed with a salad made up of baby corn, cucumber, lettuce, pineapple, watermelon and a strawberry mustard dressing. Two button-sized broccoli and cashew kebabs are placed on it, too. Cute-looking test tubes of lassi, a yoghurt-based drink, arrive in mango, strawberry and vanilla flavours. You are served a piece of Peshawari chicken tikka, marinated in rose petals and yellow chili, while vegetarians get chargrilled mushrooms flavoured with saffron and white pepper. You then get some pudina paneer tikka, Indian cottage cheese marinated in fresh mint before being cooked in a tandoor (clay oven).

The main courses, served with naan bread, are a lentil dhal, vegetable biryani and a creamy chicken curry, or vegetable version for vegetarians. Dessert is creme brulee ice cream and carrot cake.

What's not: You'll eat so much it hurts to walk afterwards.

Cost: A la carte prices are steep. The all-you-can-eat degustation menu is HK$228 per person. The buffet lunch is HK$98 and Sunday Bollywood brunch HK$138.
