A better gate makes all the difference for cellar dweller
All it took was a slightly better gate for Gerald Mosse to turn around the form of Dennis Yip Chor-hong-trained Class Fiver, Winning Mascot. Mosse had taken over from stable apprentice Alvin Ng Ka-chun last start and had much the same problem as the junior rider had been having - a wide gate that forced him to work to lead - when third to Easy Gold. From barrier eight this time instead of the 13, 12 and 11 at Winning Mascot's last three, Mosse was in no hurry early and gained a trail three wide before a tradesmanlike victory. 'Today, he had a better draw and I was able to give him some cover and he finished his race off right to the line,' Mosse said.
