A resident surgeon at Eastern Hospital jumped to his death from a luxury flat in Wan Chai yesterday. Wong Ho-hing, 34, threw himself from the balcony on the 39th-floor of the J Residence apartment in Johnston Road at about 5am. Wong had been with the Hospital Authority for several years.

Legco Square to be open for viewing fireworks

The public will be able to watch fireworks displays from Legco Square at the new government headquarters, starting with the Lunar New Year show on January 24, the Legco Commission announced.

Bank fined for junk mail sent after opt-out calls

CITIC Bank International was fined HK$2,500 in Sha Tin Court for continuing to send direct marketing mail despite a complainant's repeated opt-out requests. It was only the second conviction under the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance since it was enacted in 1996.
