Bird found dead in Yuen Long village had H5 virus
Preliminary tests indicated a little egret found dead in Nam Sang Wai, a Yuen Long village popular with amateur photographers, was infected with the H5 bird flu virus, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said yesterday. No abnormal deaths or illness had been found on the two poultry farms within three kilometres, which had been put under enhanced surveillance, it said.
Man held after father killed in drunken attack
A 38-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of killing his 75-year-old father in his flat on Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate. Police said the attacker was drunk at the time. The victim had suffered a head wound and a foldable chair was believed to have been the lethal weapon. An autopsy would be carried out to confirm the cause of death.
Four arrested over burglary at Hung Hom flat
Police investigating a burglary in which HK$8,000 in cash and various items of jewellery were stolen from a flat in Whampoa Gardens, Hung Hom, arrested a 16-year-old girl and a 34-year-old man on Friday. Two more arrests were made yesterday, when police recovered watches, jewellery and burglary tools in a car.
