People Power lawmaker Raymond Wong Yuk-man may step down from his party and not take part in this year's Legislative Council election.

His announcement followed the accusation that he punched Democratic Party district councillor Andrew Fung Wai-kwong in the face in Taipei last Friday. Fung claimed he sustained bruises to his right eye. The charge was vehemently denied by Wong.

He said he only grabbed Fung's jacket amid the chaos and accused democrat Wong Sing-chi, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, of giving false testimony.

According to media reports, Wong Yuk-man said he made his decision to quit in order to protect People Power's image, which was often labelled as radical and violent.
