What I'm reading: The Grand Tour: A Traveler's Guide to the Solar System by Ron Miller and William K. Hartmann. It's an informative layman's guide to the planets and satellites, but with incredibly detailed hand-painted impressions of extraterrestrial landscapes.

What I'm watching: Moon, directed by Duncan Jones (aka Zowie Bowie). It's a more considered take on the sci-fi/space adventure genre of late, paying homage to classics such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Solaris and Alien.

What I'm listening to: Music for Parties by Silicon Teens, a virtual synthpop group created by Daniel Miller, founder of Mute Records and the post-punk outfit, The Normal. Their only album consists mostly of renditions of rock standards from the 1950s and '60s played in an upbeat style.

Where I'm surfing: Nasa's Astronomy Picture of the Day website (apod.nasa.gov). 'Each day a different image or photograph of our fascinating universe is featured, along with a brief explanation written by a professional astronomer.'
