Mirage R was once raced by Queen Elizabeth, but there were no royal niceties about for Olivier Doleuze as he landed the Danny Shum Chap-shing-trained gelding's first win on the all-weather track. Only recently arrived down in Class Five, Mirage R had excuses at Happy Valley at his first start in the grade, but relished the dirt for a narrow victory. 'Wow, he is a tough ride. I earned my money on him,' said Doleuze. 'I rode him in the morning in his work and he was great, but it isn't easy to get him motivated in a race. We were lucky because often you can't come from back on the dirt, but the track gave the finishers a chance. It's nice to win one for Danny, I haven't had too many rides for him lately.' In fact, it was Doleuze's first ride for the yard since May 21 last year and his first winner for Shum in 15 months.
