The record of Papas indicated as much, but Neil Callan said the horse's Class Five win confirmed the Ricky Yiu Poon-fai-trained galloper was just a sprinter. Papas had been stretched to 1,650m or beyond on five occasions and never finished better than 10th. And tellingly, his only win was over 1,200m and on a yielding track. Back to 1,200, after a last-start failure over 1,800m and with some gear alterations (blinkers and a tongue tie), the five-year-old easily handled his Class Five opposition. 'He is a sprinter, but he is so lazy that he deceives you into thinking he will get further,' Callan said. 'He has got loads of ability, riding him in the mornings he gives you a great feel.'
