Achievement
Thyllis, 16, was the captain and wing striker for the Hong Kong girls' youth team in the Schools Interport Volleyball Championships last year. The team finished third and went on win the bronze medal at the Asian Schools Girls' Volleyball Championships in Da Nang, Vietnam, in August. 
 She captains her girls' volleyball team, who were third in this season's Inter-school Volleyball competition (Division One, Kowloon). They were fourth in last December's All Hong Kong Schools Jing Ying Tournament. 
Soundbite
'When I was appointed captain, I was worried I couldn't get the job done because the other players were older than me. But my teammates were very friendly and supportive,' says Thyllis. 
'We were in the same group as Iran, Macau and Singapore at the Da Nang competition. 
'We reached the semi-final after ousting Singapore and faced the eventual runners-up, China. We were defeated, but it was a historical moment for our team. 
'We couldn't believe we were standing on the podium of a continental tournament for students. It felt terrific.
'Last year was also an important year for my school team. We'd never won any medal in indoor volleyball competitions. 
However, we were promoted to Grade-A and finally took home a bronze medal. 
Over Christmas, we got a morale boost from six days of training, friendly competitions and a cultural exchange tour to Tokyo, in Japan.
'We finished fourth in the Jing Ying tournament and I could tell our team had improved a great deal. That's a good sign for future competitions.'
From her coach
'Thyllis is a capable player, and has demonstrated outstanding skills and techniques,' says Wong Shan-shan, teacher in charge of the school volleyball team. 
'Her performances have been great, but as a leader, she still needs to have a strong personality to keep her team together.'
Ambitions
'My goal for the year is to be prepared for the invitational tournament,' Thyllis says. 
'In Inter-school tournaments, our target is to reach at least the semi-finals and win the title if possible, because the next school year will be my last at my school.'
