Black Caviar puts on an Orr-some show to notch her 18th straight victory

Wonder mare Black Caviar handled her first start beyond 1,200 metres with ease, destroying her opposition in the Group One CF Orr Stakes (1,400m) yesterday at Caulfield.

The world champion sprinter notched successive win number 18, joining Hall of Fame member Ajax, whose 18 consecutive wins happened between 1937-39.

The Peter Moody-trained five-year-old jumped on terms with the rest of the field and settled beautifully before unleashing her powerful kick to beat Caulfield Cup-winner Southern Speed and Playing God and to take her prize money to more than A$4.74 million.

'It's unbelievable, it's mind-boggling. What she does to good horses is beyond belief,' Moody said.

'It's the public expectation that gets to me because you'd hate to disappoint the 30,000 people that have turned up.'

Her time was nearly four seconds outside the track record, but it mattered little to the crowd, estimated at more than 25,000.
