Motorcyclist dies in double taxi crash

A 42-year-old motorcyclist died after hitting a taxi in Sau Mau Ping, Kwun Tong, yesterday. He was headed along Clear Water Bay Road when he crashed into the cab going in the opposite direction. A second motorcycle then rammed into the taxi. Police are investigating.

ATV in last-minute fight against new rival stations

Asia Television has lodged a judicial review of the government's decision to grant three more free-to-air TV licences. Its initial complaint last year was rejected. The broadcaster said the move would harm its business. The new licensees are to be announced shortly.

Chief executive role cuts two ways

Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen said in a radio interview that he had faced disappointment and criticism in his term and learned from both. He said he would offer the incoming chief executive his help to ensure a smooth transition. In turn, he did not expect his successor to create a rival power base between being elected in March and taking office in July.

Hiker finds body hanging from tree

A hiker discovered the body of a 79-year-old man hanging from a tree near Lin Tak Road in Kwun Tong. Medics certified Leung Sau dead. He had been reported missing last month, and apparently committed suicide. Meanwhile, a Filipino man in his 30s was found hanged in a flat in Wan Chai.

Suicide stand-off after woman's body discovered

The body of a woman believed to have been dead for some time was found in a Mong Kok flat by police, sparking a three-hour stand-off with a man threatening to jump from the building. He was later taken to hospital.
