Achievements Lily, 18, plays as a forward for Hong Kong youth girls' basketball team. She represented Hong Kong at the seventh National Intercity Games in Jiangxi last October. She is preparing for the Schools Interport Basketball Championships, which will run from March 30 to April 2. Last year Lily also played in the Nike All-Hong Kong Youth League.

She's captain of her school team, which lost to eventual champions Carmel Alison Lam Foundation Secondary School in the Grade A quarter-finals at the Kwai Tsing Inter-school Competition.

In cross-country running, she was the Grade A girls' second runner-up in 2010-11. She won this season's Kwai Tsing Inter-school Cross-Country Competition.

She also clinched a silver medal in the Grade A girls' 400m run in the 2010/11 Kwai Tsing Inter-school Athletics Championships.

Soundbite: 'I used to compete in the 100m sprint when I was in primary school. In secondary school, a teacher suggested I also compete in 1,500m since I am a basketball player and this can help with my fitness,' Lily says.

'In some inter-school competitions, the 100m heats were followed by the 1,500m final, and the 100m final was right after the 1,500m race. This was physically challenging for me, but I could handle it.

'But I don't compete in 100m anymore. I run in the 400m instead. I still face the same tight schedule during races. This forces me to be on top form, which also helps me on the court.

'Since last year, I have been training with the First Division On Ching club. It took me time to get to their level, but I've made good progress.

'The club has registered me as a player for their First Division team this season.'

From her coach: 'I have rarely seen a girl who loves basketball so much,' says the school's physical education teacher Tsang Tsui-ting.

'Lily is really special. Her passion for the sport inspires her teammates. She is always helpful and willing to give advice to our junior players.'

Ambitions: 'Each week I spend two days training with On Ching, two days with the interport championships team, and one day with the school team. I have a tight training schedule, but I hope I can fit in smoothly with my On Ching teammates soon,' Lily says. 'When I'm older I want to become a referee and a coach.'
