More than any single incident, 9/11 is, perhaps, the defining event of our generation. Everyone can remember where they were when they heard the news. Everyone has their own version of the events and how they directly and indirectly affected their lives.

Based on the novel by Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close tells the story of 11-year-old Oskar Schell (Thomas Horn), whose father, Thomas (Tom Hanks), died on that fateful day.

Oskar's mother Linda (Sandra Bullock) has lost all emotional connection with her son, as the memories of his father continue to haunt him. One day he finds a key left behind by his father. Smart, inventive and determined, Oskar sets out into New York City to find the lock that the key fits. He's urged on by his will to solve riddles, something his father encouraged.

Extremely Loud has been nominated for two Oscars. One is in the Best Picture category; the other, a Best Supporting Actor nod for Max von Sydow for his role as an elderly man who only communicates through written language, and befriends Oskar during his search.
