Lai see a costly lesson for Gigi's new hubby
Last year was a big one for celebrity marriages and one fact newlyweds have to remember is that they must now give out lai see money.
Canto-pop singer Gigi Leung Wing-kei's Spanish husband, Sergio, had a hard time digesting this most Chinese of traditions.
At an art exhibition opening last week at Harbour City, the beauty revealed that they had set aside more than HK$10,000 for lai see at Lunar New Year.
'I told him married couples had to give lai see and Sergio thought it was very romantic at first,' Leung said. 'But then he was like, 'Yeah, it will be the first and last year that we'll be doing it'. He really thought it was only the first year after getting married that you have to give lai see, not for as long as you are married,' she added, laughing.
Leung told her husband that the best way to get a break was to have lots of babies, so they can get lai see. 'Sergio was like, 'Let's have lots of babies then!''
While the couple would love to have children, Leung said she did not want to rush into anything. 'Currently, our big plan is to travel around the world, but with children it won't be so easy,' she said.
For Valentine's Day, Leung said she'd give Sergio chocolates. 'He loves chocolates so much that he has to have one after every meal and he never gets fat. I think he'll love it if I make chocolates for him.'
