Long-distance lover Macy Chan says every day can be Valentine's Day as romantic letters go on display
When was the last time you wrote or received a handwritten letter, rather than a text, WhatsApp message or a Facebook poke? If you could have written an e-mail in the time it took to remember, the chances are it has been long enough.
Causeway Bay's WTC More shopping arcade has put on an exhibition featuring love letters by famous figures, including correspondence between Steve Jobs and his wife Laurene, and Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek and Soong May-ling.
To coincide with the exhibition, which runs until the end of the month, members of the public are encouraged to write their own love letters and display them in the arcade.
Beauty pageant participant Janet Chow Ka-wai and TVB actress Macy Chan Mei-sze, both happily in love, attended the opening event on Monday. Chow is marrying long-time actor boyfriend Timmy Hung Tin-ming, whose father is martial arts choreographer Sammo Hung Kam-bo, next month. She was in high spirits and shared her love letter to Hung.
'My ideal gift for Valentine's Day is either chocolates or a baby,' she said. 'I've been eating healthily and hopefully we can have two babies in three years.'
Chan, however, said her boyfriend, television actor Eric Suen Yiu-wai, couldn't make it back to Hong Kong for Valentine's Day because of filming commitments in Beijing. 'But if two people are in love, every day can be Valentine's Day,' she said.
