Visitors to the Audi A5 show at Ocean Terminal last weekend were drawn to the 333 horsepower of the S5 Coupe (HK$858,000), and dealer Premium Motors offered deals on the first 50 sales of the 211hp A5 Sportback 2.0 TFSI (at HK$525,000 up).

The A5 Cabriolet 2.0 TFSI quattro (HK$604,500) was the real head turner, however. The 211hp soft top has country club looks, and all the power and safety electronics you need for Hong Kong.

Launched at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show, the four-seater has a fabric top that takes less boot space (60 litres) than many metal variable-roof options, insulates the cabin from the elements, and drops in about 15 seconds.

The hood also raises in 17 seconds, faster than many of its competitors, to create 380 litres of space in the boot, 'the best in its class', Audi says. The marque has also devised a special coating to prevent leather seats from getting too hot in the sun, and neck-level heating is available as an extra. The A5 Cabriolet's two-litre, fuel-injected engine promises 350Nm of toque at between 1,500rpm and 4,200rpm, sprints to 100km/h in 7.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 238km/h on 18-inch cast aluminium alloy wheels. The model consumes 7.2 litres of petrol per 100km and emits 164 grams of CO2 per 100km. It also has a well-designed dashboard system, with legible references to fuel economy, fuel range and travelling time.

A hold-assist function helps keep control of the car if traffic halts on inclines. Start-stop and recuperation systems are standard in every version of the A5, and 'boost fuel efficiency by up to 11 per cent', Premium Motors says.

The range also comes with new steering wheels, 'with a flat-bottomed rim upon request', and a newly adopted electromechanical power steering system 'gives more precise [handling] around corners, and helps reduce the Cabriolet's fuel consumption by 0.3 of a litre per 100km', it adds.

As with the rest of the A5 range, the Cabriolet's infotainment system has been improved, with the Audi music interface integrating a mobile playback device or iPhone.

'Phone conversations are made convenient by a Bluetooth adapter or a mobile-phone preparation including hands-free operation,' Premium Motors says.
