Purton's pearler gets 'unreliable animal' a breakthrough win

Zac Purton's confident all-weather track ride aboard Almond Lee's Able Dragon was the key to the seven-year-old snapping a winless run that dated back to September 2009. After Able Dragon got away to a typically tardy start, Purton made the decision to keep rolling three-wide and maintain momentum throughout. 'The race panned out how I thought it would, and I thought he was the best horse in the race,' said Purton. The importance of Purton's ride wasn't lost on Lee, who called Able Dragon an 'unreliable and frustrating animal'. 'The jockey made a good decision to not hold back ... Put it this way, one thing goes wrong with him and he is gone.'
