Catch Me

Catch Me
by Lisa Gardner
Headline Digital (e-book)

Lisa Gardner's taut, pacy thrillers have gained her sizable audiences across the world - from her native United States to the shores of Hong Kong. Catch Me is the sixth novel in her series starring Boston Detective D.D. Warren. Formerly paired with police sniper Bobby Dodge, Warren is pretty much a solo act these days - tough, unafraid and, after eight weeks of maternity leave, maternal but ready to rumble. Her new case has the sort of killer premise that has you disconnecting the phone and shutting the curtains. For each of the past two years, 28-year-old Charlie Grant has lost a close childhood friend in mysterious circumstances. Charlie is not only convinced she is going to be next, she claims to know the exact moment the axe will fall: 8pm on January 21. The desperate woman collars Warren at a crime scene and begs for protection. Only, is she as terrified as she seems? A lethal martial artist, it seems more likely that someone might need protecting from Charlie. Gardner handles the suspense adeptly. I enjoyed seeing the usually unflappable Warren tested, not by her adversary but her newborn child. More please.
