New peak for Peak

home building More than 90 new residential houses on The Peak and in Island South will be completed this year, the highest number in three years, according to Centaline Property Agency's senior associate research director, Wong Leung-sing. The 94 buildings, in 15 development projects, is the third highest annual figure, just after 118 houses in 2003 and 97 houses in 2004, Wong said. Sun Hung Kei Properties is the biggest supplier, with 62 buildings, or two-thirds of the new supply this year. Mainland investors rushing overseas

The international property market has gained strongly in popularity on the mainland in recent years, according to Colliers International. It predicts that Vancouver, Toronto, London and Singapore will be the most popular targets for mainland investors. Currently, 20 to 40 per cent of foreign investors in these four cities are from the mainland. Vancouver is the first choice, mainly for purposes of immigration and education. About 30 per cent of Singapore's private residences are owned by mainlanders. Peggy Sito
