While leather is traditionally a winter fabric, Celine designer Phoebe Philo changed all that when she showed buttery soft leather tees on her spring catwalks a few seasons back. Since then, leather has appeared in more spring collections, as designers experiment with fresh ways to transform it into a lighter, more wearable material. For his resort collection, Marc Jacobs created a futuristic-looking shirt and skirt made from laser-cut leather flowers for an edgy yet feminine look. Other designers, such as Valentino, decorated clothes and accessories with floral appliques or embellishments made from leather in soft pastel shades. Choose accessories with geometric cut-outs or feminine accents, and you'll be on the right track.

A white bag is a must-have this spring. Opt for a retro style, such as the top-handle bag (HK$23,100) from Valentino. It's made from leather featuring floral cut-outs and perforations.

Azzedine Alaia's white wedges (HK$12,300) from Lane Crawford feature geometric cut-outs for a modern tribal look.

A corset belt can overwhelm the silhouette, but Alexander McQueen's sleek black style (inquiries: 2118 3489) comes with sculptural cut-outs and makes a bold statement.
