What I'm wearing: I loved the new Jil Sander Navy collection. I thought it had a subtle, spooky '70s vibe, even though it looked completely modern and expensive and all the other things fashion is supposed to be.

What I'm listening to: I've had Zarah Leander and Marlene Dietrich on rotation for so long at our store, that customers are honestly starting to wonder if we're not actually veterans of the Great War. Luckily, we have some more adventurous ears on board lately, and they have introduced us to a delightful artist called Toro y Moi. While it's a bit of a departure for us musically, his brand of '80s-ish pop is very difficult not to love.

What I'm watching: for some reason, I've been really drawn to films about Los Angeles in the 1930s and '40s. It started with Todd Haynes' HBO miniseries Mildred Pierce, which I cannot recommend highly enough. Then of course, I had to watch the original with Joan Crawford. Then it was on to Chinatown, which is a revelation every time you watch it, then the stupendous Sunset Boulevard.

What I'm reading: I'm a slave to The New Yorker. It sets the bar so high, it's actually hard for us to read any other magazines, especially fashion magazines. I'm a great newspaper fan too - I like to get my fingers dirty with the International Herald Tribune, and of course, the South China Morning Post.
