Struggling Ng showing signs of progress, insists Yip

Dennis Yip Chor-hong says his struggling apprentice, Alvin Ng Ka-chun, is showing signs of progress, as the 10-pound claimer displayed patience on upset winner Jimson The Best. 'He is still learning,' said Yip of Ng, who has ridden 10 winners this term, and is still three short of out-riding the maximum claim. 'He was jumping and using horses up too much,' Yip said. 'I've tried to teach him that when you go to the front you don't have to get there in 50m or 100m, and to take your time. Today, I wanted him handy, but because he didn't rush, he was able to take a sit behind the leader and then use the horse's turn of foot.' Yip says Jimson The Best handles both tracks and that will help him win more races.
