Wedding couples pledge to keep shark's fin soup off the menu
The Hong Kong Shark Foundation's Happy Hearts Love Sharks campaign, launched in January, has received pledges from at least 26 couples to host wedding banquets where shark's fin soup will not be served.
Now, the foundation has upgraded the grand prize it is offering as an incentive.
Couples who are getting married this year and vow to ditch the dish have a chance to win prizes such as a trip to Fiji, a wedding photography package and spa treatment vouchers.
The grand prize, which previously included a five-night stay at the eco-friendly Matava Resort in Fiji, has been upgraded. With the addition of six nights offered by the five-star Pearl South Pacific Resort, winners will now get 11 nights in Fiji, with a couple's massage, sparkling wine on arrival and three-course romantic seafood dinner.
To enter the competition, log on to happyheartslovesharks.org/hk, upload a photo, provide some basic information about yourselves and vow to have a shark-fin-free banquet.
The deadline for entries is April 30. The charity aims to have 100 couples taking part in the campaign, ensuring an estimated 30,000 bowls of shark's fin soup are not served.
