Junior game kick sparks row

Dirty play from a young football player captured on video raised eye-brows at a junior match on Saturday.

During a Hong Kong Development League game between ESF Lions and Kitchee-escola at KGV School, a Lions player kicked a Kitchee player in the head.

Fortunately, the 12-year-old player was not seriously hurt.

In a three-minute video of the incident posted on YouTube, the offence looks intentional.

The Kitchee player goes down to the ground after losing control of the ball. Instead of going after the ball, a Lions player runs up to the boy and kicks him in the head.

Parents are seen shouting at and tussling with the Lions coach.

The video commentary alleges Lions players resorted to foul play on purpose. Kitchee trounced Lions 16-0 in a game last month. In Saturday's rematch, Lions were down 0-4 by half time. The video shows Lions players making violent tackles.

'I've never seen anything like that from a boy under 12,' Stephen Lam Tak-sing, operational director of Kitchee-escola, said of the kick.
