Romance gets tills ringing again as stars turn out for make-up launch on sequel to Valentine's Day

The commercial hype surrounding Valentine's Day is already a month behind us, but some retailers have been hoping a similar event would bring them another sales boost.

So-called White Day, on Wednesday, is marketed as an opportunity for guys to give a thank-you present to girls who presented them chocolates on Valentine's Day.

Japanese beauty label Shiseido used the occasion to launch its new White Lucent Anti-Dark Circles Eye Cream in the atrium of Times Square in Causeway Bay.

Canto-pop singer Hinson Chou Tsz-yeung and his model girlfriend Jenny Xu Jingwen were hired for the promotion. It was the first time they had worked together as a couple for a commercial event.

Apart from sweet-talking about what they did on Valentine's Day, Chou got spontaneous and serenaded Xu with You Are the Sunshine of My Life. Photographers - professional and amateur - captured their public display of affection on camera.

The other guest of honour, TVB actress Fala Chen, who is dating business scion Sit Sai-hang, said she was lucky to be surrounded by people she loved every day.

'I think it's a blessing to be loved and be able to love someone,' she said. 'I usually give my boyfriend a handmade gift on these special occasions. I once made him a cake.'

To tie in with the eye cream, Shiseido gave Chen a panda-face cake. Ironically this was meant to convey the message that there would be no more panda-like eye bags if the magic cream was used.
