Nirav Modi
Who started it? Nirav Modi, a third-generation diamond jeweller, was 19 years old when he entered the industry, in 1990. Though raised in Antwerp, Belgium, Modi's Indian heritage heavily influences his work and summers spent in Mumbai are reflected in the jewellery.
Why we love it: elegant and feminine, the label uses top-quality stones to create fine jewellery imbued with exotic influences. In 2009, when many of the world's diamondaires were cutting back and selling what they could, Modi had the foresight to collect as many rare pink and blue diamonds as the market could offer. He spent the next couple of years polishing and cutting the stones to create a line of luxury jewellery.
What we'd pick: with lines of clear diamonds, the Endless Cut Diamond ring (below) offers an ethereal and eternal engagement ring unlike most. The Shalimar ring (bottom) is set with 4.86 carats of Argyle pink diamonds, including its magnificent centrepiece, a 1.25-carat purplish-pink specimen. The Scheherazade diamond necklace (above), inspired by the legendary Persian queen, offers a mesmerising array of diamonds in Modi's signature style.
