The 62-year-old former commerce minister is a controversial character; he is a populist politician known for dressing stylishly and being media savvy. He set out to fight graft in Chongqing by taking on the local mafia and corrupt officials. He also sought to revive Maoist ideals and pushed workers to sing old revolutionary songs.
